Job Description

Catch 22 are working with an upper education establishment who are seeking a Head of Health, Safety & Environment to ensure compliance and safe practice on their estate in Huddersfield.

As the Head of Health, Safety & Environment, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring legislative compliance, managing major incident preparedness, and embedding a culture of safety across all sites. You will also lead on sustainability initiatives, championing innovative practices to reduce environmental impact and align with the strategic goals.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation.
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness across the estate by partnering with managers and staff.
  • Investigate serious accidents/incidents, liaising with insurers and external bodies as needed.
  • Deliver and oversee health and safety training for staff and support its delivery to visitors
  • Chair the Sustainability Group and drive sustainability initiatives, including waste reduction and energy efficiency.
  • Prepare reports for the Executive Leadership Team, Health & Safety Committee, and Governors.
  • Monitor and audit safety practices through inspections and site visits.
  • Lead clinical governance to ensure high patient safety standards.

Ideal Candidate

  • NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent. -Essential
  • Minimum Level 2 in Maths and English (GCSE or equivalent). - Essential
  • Clean, full driving license. - Essential
  • Experience in managing Health & Safety in a large, complex organisation - Essential
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and best practices, including COSHH - Essential
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in an educational environment.
  • Leadership and management qualifications or equivalent experience.
  • Environmental sustainability knowledge and experience.
  • Enthusiastic and motivated, with a customer-oriented approach.
  • Willingness to support the ethos and vision.
