Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Steeplejack Contracts Manager to oversee all operations related to steeplejack work within our organisation. Our Steeplejack divisions are in Scotland (Pendrich) and BEST (Manchester). The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of steeplejack techniques, safety protocols, and project management.
This a key leadership position within our division and you will help lead a strategic approach in growing our presence across the steeple jack sector.
You will be responsible for reviewing our current Steeplejack capabilities and be empowered to build a highly competent team.

Steeplejack services are delivered in the North of the UK, but our ambition is to spread our services much wider. You will be based at our Rosewell office just outside of Edinburgh but will be required to travel as part of your role as we have a separate division in Manchester delivering Steeplejack services also (BEST).
You will report directly into the Managing Director for the division.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
- Develop and implement strategies to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness in steeplejack work
- With your team, manage and coordinate steeplejack projects from start to finish, ensuring quality workmanship and adherence to safety guidelines
- Ensure that all appropriate assessments and safe systems of work are carried out for the operations under your control i.e. Risk and COSHH assessments, Manual Handling assessments etc and ensure that any available safe working instructions that are provided by the manufacturer or supplier of work equipment or materials are issued and explained to employees carrying out such operations
- Give all operatives under your direct control precise instructions for correct working methods and prevent them from exposing themselves or others to unnecessary risk
- Communicate effectively with customers and keep them informed at all times of the work being undertaken
- Prepare a daybook for all projects, consisting of all personnel, places of work, vehicles etc
- Ensure Safety on-site by preparing proper and sufficient information, instruction, and supervision
- Ensure that all projects have been allocated sufficient and adequate resources to conduct the contract. i.e. suitably trained operatives/site-supervisor, proper tested equipment suitable for the job
- Lead the team by providing guidance and support as needed
- Collaborate with other departments such as H&S to ensure smooth coordination and safe execution of steeple jack operations
- Monitor project budgets, timelines, and resources to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget
- Conduct site survey and quotations
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards
- Stay current on industry trends and best practices to continuously improve steeple jack operations
Job Requirements:
- Proven experience in steeplejack work, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role
- Strong knowledge of steeplejack techniques, equipment, and safety procedures
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Effective communication and leadership abilities
- Ability to problem-solve and make quick effective decisions
- Good numeracy and computer skills
- Knowledge of Building Regulations & British Standards and how to apply them.
- Elevated level of drive, energy, and initiative, entrepreneurial, resilient, initiative-taking, focused, tenacious, and committed, with high standards and achievement orientation
- Working well as a team and on own initiative when necessary
- Good team player with a “Can Do” attitude
- Relevant certifications or licenses may be required
