Assistant Director of Facilities

I am recruiting for an Assistant Director of Facilities to work across a large multi site estate in Newcastle Upon Tyne. As the Assistant Director of Facilities you will take responsibility for the design, safety, quality, technical suitability, and statutory compliance across the Estates.  You will provide specialist and professional advice in relation to engineering services, and facilities management and manage a multi-disciplinary team across all premises with direct management responsibility for circa 1,100 staff, and £30million, for the delivery of specific Estates functions.

Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Management of planned preventative maintenance programmes
  • Management of capital programmes for maintenance and development of Estates, facilities and property
  • Management of non -skilled, skilled and professional staff
  • Management of multi -disciplinary teams and committee working
  • Maintenance and project planning
  • Financial management and analytical abilities
  • Business case and report writing which contributes to presentations to Board level
  • Specialist lead for legionella and decontamination issues • High level of communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly developed analytical and judgemental skills • High degree of hand to eye coordination and sensory skills

Candidate Specification

  • Degree in an Engineering or Building Services related subject.
  • Member of relevant professional body such as IHEEM, IET or CIBSE
  • Significant post qualification experience & track record of managing Estates assets and services, including budgets
  • Significant experience operating at Senior level Deputy Director level, Head of Service
  • Managing strategic and operational change. Including the impact on assets, resources, services & staff and developing new ways of working
  • Reporting to and working at Board / Committee level
  • Effective communication, presentational and reporting skills
  • Budget management
  • Experience of managing building project teams
  • Highly developed technical knowledge and appreciation of Estates services
  • Proven track record of managing and delivering projects to time and financial constraints
